Eye examinations and glasses for computer work

Denna sida på svenska

Lund University is legally obliged to provide glasses for computer work for employees who spend more than an hour a day working with a screen and where normal glasses are not sufficient.

Under Swedish Work Environment Authority regulation AFS 1998:5, Section 6, employees who normally work with a screen for more than an hour a day are to have an eye examination.

“An eye and eyesight test shall subsequently be provided at regular intervals and whenever the employee reports discomforts which may be connected with the visual demands of the work.”

The employer shall provide the employee with special glasses tested for screen work if an eye examination shows that such glasses are needed and that normal glasses cannot be used.

Procedure for employees

  • Employees should always inform their head of department/manager when eyesight problems at work arise.
  • Lund University has a public agreement with the optician chain Synoptik. This agreement includes eye examinations. If the eye examination shows that special work glasses for screen work are required, the agreement also covers lenses and frames from a basic range.
  • Complete the order form and ask your head of department/manager to sign it.
  • Make an appointment for an eye examination at Synoptik. Take the completed order form with you.
